100 Days in Thailand

By Ericka Jackson | January 18, 2011

Today, we are boarding a plane to Thailand!

We’ll be living there for 3 and 1/2 months (100 days to be exact) working with our partners on the ground. For those of you who don’t know, we are partnered with programs in Swaziland, India, and Thailand. We are committed to visiting our partners every year (or every other year at the least). We believe this is important for many reasons:  it helps with accountability (we always know where the money you donate is going), it helps us understand the needs of our programs and partners (which can be very complex overseas!), it helps us have an intimate understanding of the culture (so we can always do things in respectful, honoring ways), it helps us understand the challenges the children face (so we know how to serve them better), and it helps us build into our relationships with the children AND our partners who run these programs!

Relationship is so important to us at The Sound of Hope. We believe it is imperative to partner with people we know and trust, and in turn you can trust where your donations are going and that they’re being used properly. Our visits to our partners ensure that our relationships are healthy and strong!

And of course, at the heart of it all we are storytellers. I love to write and take photographs and my husband comes alive when he is creating videos. We believe that’s a big part of our responsibility when we are overseas – to share with YOU back home what we are seeing, hearing, and experiencing. To tell the stories of the children we work with – who they are, what their dreams are, the struggles they are facing, and how YOU can be a part of giving them HOPE! If you don’t know, then you can’t help. If we don’t tell you, then how will you know?

So please keep checking back with us as we share about our time in Thailand. We hope we’ll be able to “take you there” through our videos, pictures, and stories!
