COVID-19 UPDATE
Friends, followers and donors,
Our hearts are heavy in the midst of this pandemic. Unfortunately, COVID-19 is now present in all four countries where we work and care for vulnerable children. We are staying up to date with the news out of Thailand, India, Burma (Myanmar), & Swaziland (eSwatini) and are in contact with all of our partnerships. For now – our House Parents and the children in their care are safe. We will be sharing country specific updates* over the next few days.
As we researched and reviewed the information available for each of these countries, we became more and more burdened. While we are seeing, first hand, the toll that COVID-19 is taking on our own country – the impact it will have on developing countries will be much more dire. The poverty levels there are significantly higher, medical infrastructure is less developed, and basic sanitation is far behind what is needed. Our initial concern is for how many people will be infected in these countries, and what the death rates may be (with the limitations of medical care available). Beyond that though, we are deeply concerned about food supply shortages and the long term effects that economic recessions (both in America and internationally) will have on our ability to continue to meet the needs of the vulnerable children in our care.
These are difficult times for nonprofit organizations. We are facing many uncertainties, but we remain committed to providing holistic care to children in need around the world. We know that many of our incredibly generous donors are already facing their own financial difficulties (though their hearts remain committed to our mission too!)
For those of you reading this update, who have not lost your income source – please consider signing up as a monthly donor or giving a one time gift to The Sound of Hope today. Your donations will equip us to respond to the needs of vulnerable children during this worldwide crisis.
This is a time that we all need to focus on HOPE – more than ever before. Thank you for partnering with us to help give HOPE to this hurting world!
