The Refuge – Children’s Library
Three years ago we brought a handful of books to this Children’s Home, and I watched in awe as a whole crew of kids circled around to see them. I will never forget the little girl that came to me a few moments later, hugging a Photo Atlas Book of the world, and told me, “I love this book!” with a twinkle in her eye. At that moment I knew I wanted to bring her a whole stack of books – maybe even a room full of books – as soon as I could! You see, quality children’s books are very expensive and hard to find in many developing countries. Impoverished children around the world just don’t have access to books the way kids in America do.
Of course, I couldn’t bring an entire room of books to Thailand, but I figured we could definitely get a suitcase full here! This week, this project finally came to fruition when we got to set up a small Children’s Library at The Refuge, our home on the Thai/Burma border.
This is a place where refugee kids from Burma can come to find safety, love, support and a quality education. Here, they are pursuing their dreams! We’re hoping that these books will help to educate, inspire, and encourage them!
As you can see in the video above, the kids LOVED their books!
They sat together for the longest time, reading on their new rug.
Etho, our littlest boy, definitely loved the puppets we brought too!
We know these kids are going to enjoy these books for years to come!
Thank you to each and every person who helped make this project possible! We can’t wait to set up our second library in our Girls’ Home in Thailand next week!<
