Heartbreaking News from India
This week, we got some heartbreaking news from one of our Children’s Homes in India. Due to insufficient funds, the government is taking away 6 of the children at Asha House and moving them to a government home.
Obviously, this is heartbreaking for us and for the staff. Because our homes are small (with less than 40 children in each), they really feel like a “family” to these children. Being separated and forced to move could be very traumatizing for these little ones, and it’s extremely upsetting to know that there’s nothing we can do to prevent it.
What’s even more upsetting, are the negative reports we’ve heard about many of the other homes in India. The House Dad is working hard to find the best home possible, but turning over these children to another caretaker is difficult (especially in a country where orphans are often beaten, neglected, and sold.)
We do everything we can to make sure that all of our children get the best care possible, but the support we are able to provide is limited by the donations we receive. So many of you are wonderful at responding to specific needs – like the Christmas in Swaziland fundraiser, or the Asha Mission Land fundraiser – but we don’t have many donors who are committed to giving monthly. That means that we aren’t always able to send the money our homes need for things like paying utilities, or buying clothes, or paying rent. All those expenses add up – and the government has been watching this home’s finances for months now. They believe they’re getting in enough funding for 24 children – but not 30. So 6 of our sweet babies at Asha House will leave forever when their school year ends this March.
If you’ve read this far, then I hope you are thinking – “What can we do?!” We are obviously very concerned about the future funding of Asha House, and we want to be sure that no other children are taken away. But that means that we need more donations today – and in the months to come.
There are 2 ways you can respond to this need. The first, is giving a one time donation today. We are at the end of 2012, and the funds we raise right now will determine the support we are able to give our partners in January 2013. Please, help us start the year strong!

Even a small donation like $20 a month will go a long way towards meeting the needs of our sweet kids overseas!
