A Tax Day Challenge

By Ericka | April 15, 2014

The children we care for have a lot of needs, but we believe one of the most important things we can do is make sure they all get an education. School fees are expensive overseas, and many children never get an opportunity to attend. But we know that the gift of education can make all the difference for a child in poverty!

Next month our kids in Thailand and Burma will start back to school, which means they’ll need school fees, uniforms, and supplies for the upcoming school year. We need to raise $4,000 to put all 8 of our girls in Thailand in school for 1 year, and $2,800 to put our 7 students from Burma in school for 1 year.

I know that’s a lot of money to many of you. Maybe it’s not something you normally have in your monthly budget, but today just happens to be April 15… also known as TAX DAY! I know that many of you are expecting a tax return. As a matter of fact, some of you early birds may already have yours back! Did you know that the average tax refund is more than $3,000? That means that if just 7-10 people gave one third of their tax refund, we would have these school fees raised!

I’ll bet some of you have fun things you were hoping to spend this money on. I’m sure a few of you are hoping to save it for the future. But today,  I’d like to challenge you to be generous. Will you use your refund to help a child in poverty? Will you pledge a portion of your tax return to this need?

Would you consider giving $500 to put a little girl in Thailand in school for one year?

(Which will pay for all her school fees, school supplies, and uniforms?)

Today you have an opportunity to invest in the future of a child. Your gift could make all the difference for one of these boys or girls who are dreaming of becoming a doctor, nurse, or teacher. We believe that they are the leaders of tomorrow! Will you help us make sure they get to go to school this year? Together, we can help these children reach their dreams!<
