Asha House Update

By Ericka Jackson | January 28, 2012

We have one more important update from our year end projects – and we are really excited to share these photos with you! There are so many of you who gave to our Home for the Holidays fundraiser when our sweet kids at Asha House were in danger of being homeless at Christmas. Their landlord was kicking them out on December 17th, and they didn’t have anywhere to go!

But thanks to your generosity, our kids (and staff) had nothing to worry about. In just 20 hours, $5,665 was raised to help them renovate an old school building and turn it into a big, beautiful Children’s Home!

We are looking forward to taking you on a video tour during our next visit to India, but until then – we hope you enjoy these pictures!

Here is my favorite shot from Moving Day. Little Tabitha is propped up on a bundle of clothes, watching with excitement as the moving truck is loaded!

I can’t get over how beautiful and BIG the new house is compared to the old one (and it’s not even finished yet! They are still doing some organizing and decorating!) Here are some great comparison shots for you…

OLD play area…

NEW play area!

OLD boy’s room…

NEW boy’s room!

These rooms are 2 to 4 times the size of the rooms in the old house, and there are more of them. There are also more bathrooms, and lots more space to play! Plus, with the money saved on rent and transporation to school (the kids just have a 3 minute walk to school from here) the staff will be able to take in 3 or 4 more children! Isn’t that incredible?

We are so glad the kids and staff got moved in time to enjoy the holidays in their new home! Here is a shot of them singing together to welcome in the New Year!

NONE of this would have been possible without your compassion and generosity. Thank you for giving so that these sweet kids could have a home for the holidays, and for several years to come!
