Education is HOPE!

By Ericka | October 06, 2015

Education is HOPE for children in need. That’s why we’re dedicated to providing as much funding as possible for the orphans and vulnerable children in our care. Here in Swaziland, we’ve been able to raise the funds to put every child at our carepoint who needed assistance in school for the past 4 years. Hundreds of children have been able to further their education because of our awesome donors, and because of your support that helped us win the “Project for Awesome” grant this year!

In Swaziland, the government pays for the primary age children (1st – 7th grade) who are OVCs (orphans and vulnerable children) – but not for OVCs who are preschool or high school age. Preschool here is actually the equivalent of an American preK and kindergarten. It’s where 4 and 5 year olds begin to learn English – a language they must have a basic knowledge of to even be accepted into Primary School. Those who can’t attend a proper preschool can be turned away at worst, or if they are accepted, can struggle in every subject because the Primary School is taught in English.

That’s why we support a fantastic English speaking preschool at The Anchor Center, the carepoint we’re partnered with in Nsoko, Swaziland. We got to visit during class time and we were so impressed by how much the children have learned this year!

In addition to the 30 preschool students we support, we also provided funding for 21 high school (8th – 12th grade) students who needed school fee assistance this year. For these kids, missing one year of school could be the end of their education. Many never return, or fall behind too far after missing one year. But these students don’t have to worry about that! Watch the video above to hear how thrilled they were when they found out they could go to school another year!

THANK YOU to each and every one of you who have given to our Education Fund this year, and in years past. You are investing in these precious little lives, and you’re helping these kids achieve their dreams!<
